Girls’ Gymnast and Zombie Costumes

Halloween is a time for trick-or-treating, school and gym parties and of course, putting on a spectacular costume! Costumes can be super expensive, though, especially if your child wears them only once. That’s why it’s great to have a few go-to DIY costumes that your little one can easily switch between throughout the month of October. The perfect costume starts with a leotard and some simple accessories. With a few modifications, you can turn an ordinary leotard into a princess, unicorn or zombie.

If your little girl wants to dress like her favorite American gymnast, then you can get her a patriotic leotard and make her look just like Simone Biles, Aly Raisman or Gabby Douglas! She can even be a female superhero with a blue gold and red gymnastics leotard and leggings. And of course, no girl can be complete without her very own cape. For a more classic Halloween theme, your little girl can be the infamous Little Red Riding Hood. She can dress in a white or red gymnastics leotard and add the perfect accessories to portray her, such as the Big Bad Wolf’s head, a basket and the Red Hood herself.

A zombie costume is also a great option for any young girl who loves to perform! You can find a girls zombie costume in a variety of different themes, such as a high school cheerleader or a dead prom queen. Some of these costumes even come with fake blood and tattered clothing to really give your child the undead look. Other kids’ zombie costumes may include a skeleton mask or gloves that show flesh-exposed hands, so your child can be sure to have the scariest looking costume in the neighborhood.

The first thing you need to do when preparing your child for the role of a zombie is to help them understand what it means to be a zombie. Explain to them that a zombie is an infected person who craves the human blood of non-infected people. It’s important to note that zombies are not very clean eaters, so they will usually have a lot of blood on their clothes. Some of the best zombie costumes will have lots of blood splatters on them, while others may feature dark spots to represent dirt and grime from years of walking around.

If your child is feeling particularly creative, you can also get her a makeup kit that will allow her to apply her own fake wounds to her face and hands. You can even purchase a few plastic swords or toy weapons to add to her ensemble. Just be careful not to overdo it, as too much makeup can look unnatural and silly. Finally, your daughter should practice her acting skills to ensure she is able to scream, run and walk with a convincing limp when wearing her Halloween zombie costume. She can also learn how to use a few growls and snarls to add to her character!
