Gymnast Dominique Moceanu

Gymnast Dominique Moceanu is a retired American gymnast. She was a member of the 1996 Olympic gold-winning United States women’s gymnastics team. She specialized in pommel horse and floor exercise. She also competed in the world of dance. She has also performed a variety of roles on stage, including a role as a director. She is a mother of three daughters and has won several international competitions.

After winning the 1998 All-Around gold medal at the Goodwill Games, Moceanu revealed that she suffered multiple injuries during her training. She blamed her coaches for abusing her and the abuse she suffered. Her comments sparked an outraged response from USA Gymnastics and a boycott of USAG. She says she’s not guilty of any wrongdoing and has forgiven her former coaches.

A former U.S. Olympic team member, Moceanu was a pivotal figure in the Larry Nassar sexual abuse scandal. In 2008, she went public with her allegations of abuse, claiming her father abused her and mishandled her money. Ultimately, Moceanu won her first National Team berth at age 10. During her career, she competed at the junior and senior levels and represented the United States in major international competitions. In 1992, she won an all-around silver medal at the Junior Pan Am Games, a year after the alleged sex-abuse scandal in the United States. In 1995, she became the youngest woman ever to win the senior all-around title.

In 2008, Moceanu came forward with her claims of abuse. She claimed to have received multiple injuries during her training. She helped the US win its first Olympic gold since 1984. In 2012, she wrote “Off Balance: A Memoir” in which she detailed her experiences as an elite gymnast. She also alleged that her former coach, Bela Karolyi, had abused her. The book is now a best-selling memoir.

In 2008, Moceanu began speaking out against her abusive father, claiming she suffered a tibial stress fracture. Later, she testified in a Senate hearing about the abuse in her training. Her testimony in the case led to her suspension from her sport and a federal investigation into the abuse. Her testimony in the hearing was heard by the head coach of the U.S. Gymnastics. She defended her actions by saying:

In her memoir, Moceanu also claims she was abused by her coach. She also claims that he cheated on her with a different man. Then, she was accused of lying by USAG and told the truth about her abuse. It was a very emotional experience for her. She was unable to compete in the Olympics for three months due to her injuries. She had to stop competing in order to recover.
