Paul Hunt has written numerous books on gymnastic and fitness including his own illustrated children’s book titled “The Perfect Gymnast: The Evolution of a Gymnast”. This pictorial book tells the story of how he became a gymnast and the experiences that helped make him a well known gymnast today. His first involvement with gymnastics came at the age of six when he was first given a pair of leotards by his mother who then proceeded to set up a simple ring for him to use while performing his first sets. He continued to use the leotard for the next six years and even began to wear trampoline equipment made by Hunt and Co. After setting up his own gymnastic and fitness club at the age of twelve, he then began to participate in sports such as basketball and track. However, his greatest dream was to be a gymnast and he got his chance at that when he was invited to try out for the U.S. National Team which included such gymnasts as Donna Murphy, Amy Coleman, Desiree Gilbertson and Linda Ellerbee.

Despite his experience on the amateur level, Paul Hunt was still a relatively unknown name when he was selected to represent the United States at the Olympic Games in 1996. He performed below expectations however and did not even place in the competition, which forced the U.S. head coach Herb Elliott to make the choice to bring in John Kettler instead. Though the Americans did not place in the quarter finals, they still made an excellent showing as Coleman and Murphy finished in second and third respectively. This performance made the gymnast an instant star and even encouraged him to pursue gymnastic as a career.

Paul Hunt’s first major challenge came from a fellow gymnast named Scott Norton, who had been appointed as the director of the team. Though Paul Hunt was unhappy with the promotion, he was able to change the attitude of the staff with the help of his hard work and encouragement. He was then given the chance to show off his skills and to compete alongside the other gymnasts though he realized that he was not yet ready to face the professionals. He therefore trained hard for the next two years in order to be ready to face the competition once he got to the games. Sadly though, it was not to be as he failed to impress the judges and was defeated by Russia’s Vasiliya Khorkins in the final.

Hunt has also gone on to fame and glory after he represented the United States at the 2021 Olympics. He has had quite a few gymnast covers and has been featured in a number of Hollywood films and television shows. Though he is a much-anticipated match up against Russia’s Kym Johnson, this will be the first match that he has contested and he is hoping that things will work in his favor. Many people feel that he may struggle in this tournament as he is not that used to competing at such a high level and though he has worked hard over the past few years, it could be a disappointment for many. Johnson is undoubtedly a much better gymnast though so perhaps we should focus our attentions on the USA rather than our Georgian counterparts.

The gymnast has also had to give up many national tournaments as he has chosen to concentrate more on individual events. However, all that he has tasted thus far has made him extremely excited for the challenge ahead. He is fully aware of how big an opportunity this could turn out to be and it is something that he wants to make sure does not go to waste. I wonder if he will be allowed to go all out in the first year and risk it failing but that is probably something only Hunt and his coach can decide. We will soon find out!
