With just a month to go until the Olympics in Tokyo, gymnastics on tv is getting hotter than ever. Watch live coverage from the U.S. Championships this week on NBC’s Peacock streaming service and Olympic Channel online. The meet is an important qualifier for the Olympic team, with the winner of the women’s all-around competition earning one of the Olympic spots in the final and the men’s all-around champion getting a bonus spot if he or she finishes in the top three in each of the six events. Then there’s the junior competitions, which are also eligible for Olympic consideration and feature some of the top young talent in the sport.
The big name in the women’s competition is four-time Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles, who is widely considered a favorite to win another all-around title. With 37 world and Olympic medals, she is now the most decorated female gymnast of all time. She will be joined by the rest of her Tokyo Olympic team, including training partners Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles and Jade Carey as well as first-year senior Hezly Rivera.
But the men’s field is also packed with talent. World championships bronze medalist Brody Malone, Yul Moldauer and Shane Wiskus are all vying for the four available team spots. The team selection process is a bit different this year, with only the results from Nationals and Trials determining the squad instead of last season’s result plus the Olympic trials. That means the men could surprise in a huge way this weekend.
NBC and Peacock will air the following live coverage of the finals:
The coverage starts with qualifying rounds on Friday, July 23 at 7 p.m. ET on NBC’s Peacock. Then the finals take place from Aug. 3 through the 5, with the men’s all-around final on Aug. 3. The women’s vault and parallel bars finals will be on Aug. 3, while the balance beam and uneven bar finals are on Aug. 4. FloGymnastics subscribers can catch all the action live on Roku, Amazon Fire TV, XBOX One and Chromecast devices as well as on the free FloSports app. Subscribers can also access the full video archive on a desktop or mobile device for the duration of their subscription. Former Olympic gymnasts Samantha Peszek and Tim Daggett will provide commentary, while former NBC Olympic commentator Terry Gannon calls his seventh Olympics for NBC Sports as a reporter and analyst. FloGymnastics will also feature an impressive roster of expert analysts and reporters, including Olympic silver medalist Zora Stephenson and 2012 Olympian MyKayla Skinner. Former NFL quarterback John Roethlisberger returns to the network as a guest reporter for the finals and other NBC events in Rio.
